After her recent stint on the small screen, Paris Jackson looks to be setting her sights on the movies. Michael Jackson’s daughter has just signed on to appear in Nash Edgerton’s upcoming Amazon Studios’ outing starring David Oyelowo and Charlize Theron.
While the movie is currently untitled, Deadline reports that it will be a dark comedy-thriller and will also feature the likes of Yul Vasquez, Thandie Newton, Sharlto Copley and Amanda Seyfried. Edgerton’s brother, Joel Edgerton, whose best known works include The Great Gatsby, The Gift and most recently Loving, is geared up to star too.
The publication goes on to reveal that Jackson will portray Nelly; an “edgy” 20-year-old. The film is set to follow American pharmaceutical businessman Harold Soyinka (Oyelowo) as he becomes embroiled in a life of crime and embarks on a joyride to Mexico. Along the way, he gets reluctantly involved with drug lords, international mercenaries and the FBI. Sounds like quite the trip!
Nash Edgerton is on board to direct, working with a script from Matthew Stone (Man of the House) and Anthony Tambakis (Warrior). Theron, Edgerton, Tambakis, Rebecca Yeldham, Beth Kono and AJ Dix are producing.
Edgerton has long been known in the movie industry as a stuntman, having worked on titles including The Matrix, Mission: Impossible II and Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. However, he made his feature length film directorial debut with The Square, once again starring his brother Joel, in 2008.
Jackson, 19, is no stranger to acting, having made her debut in an episode of musical drama series Star back in March. In the show, she portrayed Rachel Wells, a young, fashion-conscious social media guru who encourages titular protagonist Star (Jude Demorest) and fellow singer Eva (recurring guest actor Sharlene Taulé) to take part in a risque publicity photo shoot.
